About Penn ReproJustice
We were created in response to the overturn of Roe v. Wade, which further restricted reproductive autonomy and choice— specifically targeting historically marginalized communities that have already struggled with healthcare access and basic necessities.
PRJ supports reproductive justice work in both the Penn & Philly community by amplifying local advocacy efforts, distributing resources, raising awareness through education, and developing sustainable and meaningful partnerships.
By prioritizing listening to voices throughout communities, PRJ hopes their efforts will empower people to make educated choices and safely care for their reproductive health.
Our Values
1
3
Being Community-Focused
Being Sustainable and Impact-Driven
We commit to not monopolizing, dominating, or silencing the community. We aim to act as a support system to community members/partners, as well as prioritize the community’s most stringent and essential needs first.
We want to emphasize long-lasting and loyal relationships with community partners and enact meaningful and intentional change that is measured and valuable to our community.
2
Being Member-Focused
4
Uplifting Diverse Backgrounds
As a group, we find it imperative that we are all receptive to feedback from members and that we play an active role in creating a welcoming, empowering, transparent community.
We want to put personal stories and lived experiences at the forefront of our work as well as acknowledge and affirm input from members of all experience levels.
How We Advocate for RJ
1
Expanding abortion and contraceptive access
2
Creating inclusive sex and menstrual health education
3
Committing to improving reproductive health policy in the greater Philadelphia region
4
Equipping and training members to be community-conscious advocates for reproductive justice
5
Emphasizing inclusion within the reproductive justice space to individuals of all identities.

SOAR Summer Internship
Students Organizing for Access to Reproductive Health (SOAR)
Summer 2024 - Present
Education committee
From July 9th to August 8th, four of PRJ’s Education Leads facilitated the first SOAR Internship, mentoring five Philadelphia high school students with leadership, activism, and service skills.
The SOAR Intern Symposium took place on the last day of the program to congratulate the intern cohort on their project presentations. SOAR mentors will continue to work with interns to make their projects a reality throughout the school year.
The SOAR team was awarded the 2024 Davis Projects for Peace Grant which allocates $10,000 to “pursue innovative, community-centered, and scalable responses to the world’s most pressing issues.”
By adopting a Training of Trainers (ToT) Model and hands-on approach to addressing reproductive justice and menstrual equity issues, SOAR strives to cultivate RJ leaders within their own communities and schools. SOAR interns will not only become RJ leaders themselves, but also exponentially increase their impact as RJ/ME ambassadors at their own schools and training the next cohort of youth activists.
Check out the SOAR Website to learn more about the program.
2024 RJ Art Exhibit
Spring 2024
Political Advocacy Committee
PRJ organized Penn's first Reproductive Justice Public Art Exhibition on April 25-26, 2024 on College Green. Submitted artworks displayed visual, photographic, and written artwork around lived experiences with menstruation, reproduction, abortion, education, and other experiences. We hoped this exhibition brought more awareness to these issues and showcase the lived experiences of our West Philadelphia community. The exhibition was open to the public.
Themes of submitted artwork included:
Experiences with Menstruation | Sexual/Domestic Violence | Reproductive Health | Experience with Abortion/Abortion Stories | Interpersonal Violence | Experiences Trying to Access Basic Needs | Experiences with Sexual Education | Intersectionality in Reproductive Justice | Experiences as a Marginalized Identity or Identities | Journeys in Activism | Decisions to Terminate or Keep a Pregnancy | Bodily Autonomy | Inequities in Access to Reproductive Health Services | Anxieties/personal feelings around Protecting your Autonomy | + many more!

Plan B Delivery Service
for Penn Students
Fall 2023 - Present
Community Engagement Committee
This fall, we initiated a confidential and free service, distributing over 40 Plan B pills, along with condoms, lube, & educational materials about emergency contraception, to undergrad students on campus.
Once you fill out the form, a student distributor will hand-deliver your package or leave it in front of your door (depending on what you request in this form).
At this time, we only deliver to on-campus residential dorms.
Menstrual Health Education Program (MHEP)
Fall 2022 - Present
Education committee
We partner with OurSpace & the Netter Center to host workshops about period health and stigma at high schools & middle schools in West Philadelphia.
Since Fall 2022, we have worked to expand our MHEP to Sayre & West Philly High School and the Workshop School. Facilitating over 15 workshops, our leads discuss topics on period health basics, how to take care of your period, all that can go wrong with your period, gender-inclusive periods, and period stigma. We plan to provide workshops with CHOP Homeless Health Initiative’s partner shelters.

Safe-Sex Series: We organize workshops about HIV/AIDS and contraceptives featuring physicians, activists, & student speakers.
Sustainable Periods Workshop: We discuss the pros and cons of disposable vs reusable period products and provide demos for menstrual cups, reusable pads, and period underwear. In our fall 2023 workshop, we gave out 50 free menstrual cups, sanitizing cups, and 120 reusable pads to our attendees. The leftover products were donated to our menstrual health workshops for our high school students.

Abortion Rally
Fall 2022
political advocacy committee
We partnered with Penn MSFC, If/When/How, NSRH, & OB/GYN interest group at Penn Med to organize this rally in support of abortion rights featuring Josh Shapiro. We were able to encourage several voting rights groups to set up tables and register people to vote (~20 new registered voters). We also spoke about the importance of the youth vote.
Fundraisers
Fall 2022 - PrESENT
community engagement committee
A large part of the work the Community Engagement Committee does is raising money for larger repro justice organizations and/or the Philly community. It is critical that we are working to meet the needs of communities beyond Penn. This can take many forms — in the past we hosted a bake sale at Smoke’s, period-product packing parties, Panera, and Kiwi.
Most recently, our Bake Sale on Locust raised over $350!

Spring 2023 - PrESENT

We seek to create accessible, affordable, and easily understandable mediums to educate our community. Our infographics cover educational topics from the biology of repro health to more equitable access to coverage.

PRJ In the News

A warm thank you to the media outlets that have written about PRJ’s work in the past year. Our work would not be as meaningful without these channels who have spread awareness of our activism and mission in action.
The Daily Pennsylvanian (DP)
“We really want to put lived experience and personal stories at the forefront of our work and just equip members of all levels of experience with the knowledge and resources to become more seasoned advocates within the space,” Shetty said.
“I wanted to create a space that allows people to first interrogate their own assumptions and perspectives on this issue, but also to approach conversations with people who might have a different perspective and learn about where they're coming from,” Jin said.
“I realized that, for some people, using substitutes for period products like toilet paper is their reality. And there's no reason that that should be the case.”
“It's hard to sometimes get to CVS even if you can afford it, or go to [Student Health and Counseling], so I think that's why we decided to make it this delivery service,” Naughton said.
The Temple News
“I think it’s important that groups around Philadelphia that support reproductive justice stand in solidarity with each other and are able to support each other,” said Nguyen.
